This will help you win more often than you lose. There are many versions of a Blackjack strategy, from the most basic to the most complicated. We’ll take a look at some of these Blackjack strategies in this review. We hope that these blackjack tips will help you become a better player over time.
First thing’s first. The House always has the edge when playing Blackjack in an online casino. There are a number of things to keep in mind in order to order to cut the edge. Firstly, it’s vital you learn the absolute basics of Blackjack. Having a Blackjack strategy is key. This way, you stand a chance of making profit. But remember, to know how to use blackjack tips, you must first master all the game’s basics.
Blackjack is NOT a ‘get rich quick’ scheme. It’s difficult to win any hand, especially if you enter an online Blackjack table unprepared. You’ll probably lose a lot more than you win, particularly when you first start playing. Bear this in mind when deciding your stake.
This is not intended to be a blackjack for dummies guide. We hope you can find a Blackjack strategy you can use in our guide. Before we get started, though, it’s important to go through the very basics of the game. So, let’s get started.
One deck contains 52 cards, split into four suits: Spades, Clubs, Hearts, Diamonds.
Each suit contains 13 cards, numbered two to ten and then Jack, Queen, King and Ace.
Your main Blackjack basic strategy is to get to 21. At least, closer to 21 than the dealer without going bust. The aim is essentially to beat the dealer. If your card total exceeds 21, you go bust and you lose the hand.
Now to Blackjack card values. Jacks, Queens and Kings are Face Cards, and are worth 10. An Ace is worth either 1 or 11, depending on what you need in your hand at that time. Numbered cards are worth exactly what’s written on them. Got a two of hearts? You have two points.
For the moment, let’s say you’ve joined an online Blackjack table where it’s just you against the dealer. Initially, you’ll be given two cards: the dealer will hand you the first card face up, deal themselves one face up, deal your second card face up and themselves their second card, but face down.
Now, you can study your cards and decide what you want to do. Note that in most versions of the game, you only know half of the dealer’s total at this point.
So, your main Blackjack strategy is to get 21. Have an Ace and a King? 21! That’s Blackjack! The dealer will then turn over their face-down card. Now, 21 will usually win the hand, unless the dealer has 21 as well. In that case, the hand is declared as a ‘push’. You keep your stake but you don’t win anything either.
Let’s say your two cards consist of a King and a Four. You have a total of 14. You see that the dealer also has a King but, of course, you don’t know their second card. You can request another card or you can stand.
This is the dilemma, and working out what’s worth the risk will help you become a better Blackjack player.
14 is an unlikely winning score, unless the dealer goes bust. So, you hit. Your card is a Nine. This gives you a total of 23, meaning you’ve bust.
Or, you stand on 14 and let the dealer play instead. The dealer turns over their second card to reveal a Five. Now, in most online casinos, the dealer has to hit on any total less than 16. So the dealer hits. Gets a Nine. So the dealer busts and you win the hand!
Now, if the dealer revealed an Ace, they have 21 and win the hand. Or, if they have a total 16 or higher, they can stand and they’d win the hand as you refused to take another card.
Tough, yes? To make it easier for Blackjack beginners, there are a number of strategies and blackjack tips you can employ to try and turn the Blackjack odds of winning in your favour. We’re going to look at these in more detail shortly.
Now, we’ve talked about hits and hands and stands, but if you’re a complete Blackjack beginner, you’re probably wondering what we’re talking about. Here’s a rundown of basic Blackjack terminology:
- Hand: The cards you receive from the dealer
- Hit: Request another card. You can hit as many times as you like unless you bust
- Stand: Stick with what you’ve got. The dealer/next player then decides whether to hit or stand on their hand
- Double Down: Double your stake, receive an extra card and stand
- Split: Available if you have two cards of the same rank, split them into separate hands and receive two additional cards, one for each hand
- Surrender: Give up half and keep half of your bet
- Insurance: If your dealer has an ace (with their face up card) you can bet on them getting a Blackjack
- Blackjack: When a two-card hand consists of an Ace and a Face Card
What Are The Blackjack Odds
There are several different types of blackjack that you can play. Each variation comes with different blackjack odds. However, it is crucial that you first learn to use various blackjack basic strategies.

It’s a good idea to bear each strategy in minds, to hopefully swing the Blackjack odds in your favour. Pay attention to these blackjack tips and strategies, they will help you in the long run.
Blackjack Strategy: Pick an online table that has players already
It might sound like a minor thing, but the more players a table has the more time you will have to study your cards. Having time to assess whether to hit, stand, double down or split is key, even in online Blackjack.
Blackjack Strategy: Pick an online table that requires low stakes
Most online Blackjack table require a minimum stake of $5 per hand. There are some US sites where minimum stake per hand is $1. Find a trustworthy online Blackjack site where the minimum stakes are low, especially if you’re a beginner.
This way, you can learn the game without risking too much off your bankroll. There can even be opportunities for free hands at certain times. We’ll take a look at the best online blackjack casinos shortly.
Blackjack Basic Strategy: Find Out Where The Dealer Hits And Where The Dealer Stands
On most online Blackjack tables, the dealer has to hit on 13 or less and has to stand on 17. This means you can judge whether the dealer has a good chance of going bust or not. In turn, it can help you decide whether to risk a hit or stand with what you have.
Blackjack Strategy: Find A Table That Offers Double Down
Doubling down in is a Blackjack strategy that more experienced players make. It can give you the edge, turning the Blackjack odds in your favour.
What is double down? It’s where you can essentially double your bet, and you’ll receive one extra card.
Assessing if and when you should double down is difficult. One Blackjack strategy is to see if you have a Soft hand or a Hard hand.
In its most basic terms, it depends if you have an Ace in your hand and if you’re counting it as 1 or 11. A Soft hand is where you can’t bust even if you request another card.
Let’s say you are dealt an Ace and a Three. In this instance you have Four (counting the Ace as one). You can hit and you won’t exceed 21.
A Hard hand is when you count the Ace as 11. So, with your Ace and Three, you can have Fourteen, meaning a hit could result in you going bust.
Some online Blackjack casinos only allow the Double Down option on certain cards. Others allow you to Double Down on any cards you like.
Blackjack Strategy: Set Your Limits
It’s easy to get carried away with online Blackjack. Blackjack is fun! Particularly true when you’re winning…that’s why it’s important to set your stake limits before you play.
Have a total number of dollars in mind of which you can lose. However tempting, don’t exceed this limit. You could lose your bankroll very quickly if you start chasing your losses or staking more than you’re comfortable with.

What Are The Different Blackjack Variations?
When you visit any online Blackjack casino, keep in mind that tables can play in different ways. This is why it is important to know as many blackjack basic strategies as possible. In our Blackjack basic Strategy section above, we touched on different tables having different rules for Double Down and when a dealer stands, but there are more variations to look out for.
Online blackjack can consist of many different variations of the classic game. Let’s take a look at the most common. One Blackjack basic strategy may work for one game but not another, so study the Blackjack rules of each version.
- Classic Blackjack
Classic Blackjack is the most common form of the game. Our Blackjack strategy guide above discussed the nuances of the traditional way of playing. You win Classic Blackjack if you get 21, or closer to 21 than the dealer without going bust. Most online Blackjack casinos offer the classic version of the game.
- Progressive Blackjack
Very similar to the classic game, Progressive Blackjack allows the player to add a side bet. This side bet gives an extra opportunity to beat the Blackjack odds and win a bigger prize.
- Spanish 21
Spanish 21, or Spanish Blackjack, is where all value cards are removed from the pack. The game increases the edge the House has, but surrendering even after Doubling Down is allowed.
- European Blackjack
European Blackjack is said to be where the American version of the game developed from. Players may have to be more conservative when playing the European game. The dealer can only look at their second card once you’ve finished playing yours. That is, the dealer only receives one card on first deal, whereas in the American game the dealer can peek at their second card if there’s an opportunity of a Blackjack.
- Atlantic City Blackjack
In this version of the game, the dealer must keep hitting on any total of 16 or less. They must also stand on any total between 17 and 21. For the player, Double Down is allowed, even after a Split. However, you can only split your initial cards. This affects the blackjack odds interestingly in the long run. A skiller player might come across more wins.
- Vegas Strip Blackjack
In Vegas Strip, the dealer hit and stand rules are the same as they are for the Atlantic City version. For players, the Split rule is different. You can split up to four hands, and can Double Down on your initial hand.
- Blackjack Switch
One of the more exciting versions of the game, Blackjack Switch allows the player to be dealt two hands. The player can then switch the second card between the two hands if they desire. The Blackjack odds for payout are generally shorter than in the classic version, with most payouts set at 1:1 rather than the more conventional 3:2. Another major difference is that the dealer doesn’t bus on 22. Instead, 22 is classed as a push.
- Super Fun 21
In Super Fun 21, payouts are slightly larger if you have Diamonds. So, if you have a Diamond Blackjack, let’s say a Diamond Ace and a Diamond King, this pays out at 2:1. If a player and a dealer draw the same cards, the player wins. There are also fewer restrictions to how you play, with Double Down and Splitting available on any cards.
Pontoon is very similar to Spanish 21. The major difference is the terminology. In Pontoon, Hit is called Twist, Stand is Stick and Double Down is Buy.
- Live Blackjack
Many US online casinos offer Live Blackjack. In Live Blackjack, you’re playing against a real dealer, not a computer. The Live Casino tries to replicate a real-life casino as closely as possible. This means that you have fair blackjack odds, as if you were in a casino.
Where Can I Play Online Blackjack?
There are many online casinos in the US where you can utilize your new-found Blackjack strategy. Many of these sites accept customers from all over the States. There are, of course, legal requirements to bear in mind.
Most of the online blackjack casinos we’ve reviewed for this article allow customers from most States. However, certain states are yet to legalize online gambling. This means that while it’s possible to play, it may not be legal for you to do so.
